Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) weekend is traditionally a big ski weekend. Not only does the holiday guarantee you an extra day of skiing, but it’s also right at the time when the ski season is in high gear and when Mother Nature starts dropping some of the best snow storms all year.

1. Copper Mountain

Who says you can’t mountain bike in the winter? This one-of-a-kind, 10-mile race brings competitors through snowy obstacles all around the resort and ends with a fireworks show at the finish line. The cost per rider is $20, but it’s for a good cause! All proceeds go towards Cloud City Wheelers advocacy efforts, promoting health and recreation. Kids can also take part in the action with free fun-rides Little Bike (age 9 and under) and Junior Bike (age 10 and up). Check Copper Mountain’s schedule for more details on how to participate.

Copper Safety Fest
January 18 – 20

January is National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) National Safety Awareness Month. To celebrate, the National Ski Patrol, the U.S. Forest Service, Summit County Rescue Group, Woodward at Copper and many more will be on hand to provide information on backcountry awareness, National Forest access and Copper Mountain’s Safety Initiatives. 2. Okemo

Let It Glow – Laser Light Show & Fireworks Spectacular

Okemo will be hosting it’s first ever Let it Glow Laser Light Show that’s sure to light up your weekend! The dazzling visual effects and state-of the-art digital graphics will send colorful beams and lights bouncing off the snow on Bull Run.

5. Red River

Red River’s Winter Carnival & Parade of Ice is a celebration of mountain living at it’s finest! Events include snowmobile races, ice sculptures, snowman-building, games, live music, torchlight parades, fireworks, and more. Some events are free, while others require registration.
